Tips for visiting Rocky Mountain National Park

  • Arrive early during the summer and fall as these are the busiest times. Late entry to the park is also less congested and parking is easier to find.
  • The weather in the Rockies can change in an instant, especially the higher up you go. Check the weather conditions before your visit to be better prepared.
  • If you plan on fishing in the park, a Colorado fishing license is required.
  • Pets are allowed in the park but not allowed on trails or meadows. Pets must be kept on a leash and are permitted in areas that can be accessed by vehicles, such as roads, parking lots, picnic areas, and campgrounds. There are United States Forest Service trails in the surrounding area that are pet-friendly.
  • There are no gas stations within the park grounds.
  • Obey traffic signs and drive slowly through the park as wildlife is abundant in the park.
