You never know what kind of wildlife you will see on the property when you visit us, though elk make fairly frequent appearances at Brynwood on the River and in downtown Estes Park. Our elk population is more than 3,000 and Rocky Mountain National Park is also home to moose, bighorn sheep, bobcats, mountain lions, and smaller critters like chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits. The video below captured some elk as they enjoyed a little snack and tour at Brynwood on the River.
It's always important to stay back from the wildlife, especially when the Bull Elk rut in the fall. The peak of the elk rut near Rocky Mountain National Park is from mid-September to mid-October, though we’ve heard a few bugles in early November before. Studies have shown that these bugles can contain a variety of information whether to scare off predators, let other bulls know they’re in the area, or if the bull is prepared to fight. Estes Park hosts an annual Elk Fest in the fall to celebrate this special time. This video was taken on the property in October 2015.
