Brynwood on the River History
Cabin Rentals in Estes Park, Colorado
Our history begins in January of 1979, when Gene Oliver, an airline pilot, his wife Marjorie, a nurse, their son Gary and their daughter-in-law Cindy purchased Brynwood, fulfilling their dreams to live in the mountains and own a business. In April they moved here from Utah with five children from ages 1 to 20. Gene was still a captain on Western Airlines, and during his days off he enjoyed decorating the cottages with his family. His favorite was the 11th Aero Squadron, which displays many keepsake photographs and historical aviation documents—including one of him dressed in WWI uniform.
When Gene passed away in 1985, Gary and Cindy took over, and today, the third generation Olivers are helping with the family business. We’ve met some interesting characters in the same valley where Ute Indians used to spend summers to escape the heat: “Chica” the chipmunk and his growing family share accommodations and handouts form our guests with marmots and raccoons. Each Autumn has brought another round of golden aspen and bugling elk. Look for “Clang” the bull elk, so named when he managed to get wind chimes caught in his antlers. Deer can be seen drinking from the river in early mornings and evenings, while Elk can be plentiful right in our front yard, especially during the fall and winter months.
