4 Estes Park Walking Trails

Getting outdoors and simply walking every day can help to reduce stress, plus boost your energy and improve your mood. Estes Park is a great place to do just that. So, take it easy with these four Estes Park walking trails.

Lake Estes

In the heart of town, Lake Estes offers a nice gentle path that circles the perimeter of the lake. Walk through a bird sanctuary, take in views of the golf course (where you can often see elk), hear the roaring sound of the Big Thompson River, and of course enjoy the lakeshore. The path is wide and paved, making it one of the best Estes Park walking trails for all levels. The entire length of the trail is 3.73 miles.

Where: 1770 Big Thompson Ave.

Estes Park Riverwalk

While a simple stroll through downtown is always nice, make it even better with a walk along the Estes Park Riverwalk. The Riverwalk guides you to restaurants, shops, offers outdoor seating, beautiful plazas, and art sculptures to admire.

Begin the riverwalk trail begins at the Estes Park Visitor Center – 500 Big Thomspon Ave.

Knoll Willows Trail

A short walk from downtown Estes Park, the Knoll Willows Trail guides walkers through the Knoll Willows Open Space and offers views of the town and surrounding mountains. This trail crosses the Black Canyon Creek while providing ample opportunity to see elk and other local fauna. And as a bonus, the trail provides an opportunity to see several historic structures along the way. The entire length of the trail is one mile, round trip. You can access this trail between Wonderview Avenue and Macgregor Avenue.

Kruger Rock Trail

Located just outside of Estes Park is the Kruger Rock Trail. This four-mile trail is rated as moderate, offering a bit more of a challenge. Hikers and walkers can access the trail via Hermit Park, an open space 10 minutes outside of Estes Park. Offering beautiful mountain views from the summit, the trail also offers wildflowers in the summer and stunning fall foliage in the fall. The well-marked trail is short with a few steep sections to get your heart pumping.
