How to Stay Warm This Winter in Estes Park

Image of a hiking trail surrounded by trees covered in snow.

There are plenty of reasons to come visit during the winter in Estes Park, most of which include outdoor activities, but there are plenty of indoor activities to keep you warm this winter, even on the coldest of days.

Reach new heights at the climbing gym

Take your outdoor adventures indoors at the Estes Park Mountain Shop. Their indoor climbing gym offers climbing routes for all skill levels. With a 4,500 square foot facility, they offer ample climbing terrain that is changed out often, climbing-specific training tools, and 125 vertical feet of bouldering. Lessons are available for beginners.

Visit a coffee shop

Warm up this winter with a cup of coffee from one of Estes Park’s many coffee shops. Offering both local shops and chains, there is something for everyone to choose from. A few local favorites include Coffee on the Rocks, Inkwell & Brew, and Kind Coffee.

Tasting at a distillery

Estes Park is home to its very own local distillery, Elkins Distilling. Distilled and bottled in the Rocky Mountains of Estes Park, visit their tasting room to warm your spirit on a cold winter’s day in Estes Park. Be sure to sample their classic Colorado Whisky, which uses a strong base of their white whisky. Their tasting room is located on the east side of Estes Park, across the street from Lake Estes.

Estes Park not only offers plenty of outdoor recreation it also is home to several historic and educational museums, including the Estes Park Museum. The museum exhibits and holds programs that highlight the history of Estes Park. In addition to the main building, visitors will also be able to see two historic structures: the 1908 Cobb-Macdonald cabin and the Historic Boyd cabin. The Boyd Building was once the headquarters for the Rocky Mountain National Park from 1915 to 1923.
