Sometimes two days just isn’t enough for a weekend getaway. That’s why we put together this itinerary for a three-day weekend to Estes Park! Discover all you can do in just three short days with our guide below.
Day 1
Jump right in and spend your first day at Rocky Mountain National Park! I mean, that is the reason you came to Estes Park, right? With 415 square miles and over 300 miles of trails, there is more than enough to keep you busy for one day. From scenic drives and overlooks to hiking trails, there are many ways to explore this beautiful park.
To help get you started, here are few highlights and a few places every first-timer must visit:
- A scenic drive along either Bear Lake Road, Trail Ridge Road, or Old Fall River Road. Each offers its own unique features such as Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuously paved road in the United States, reaching an elevation of 12,138 feet. Depending on the time of year you visit, some of the roads may be closed due to snowpack, so be sure to check the NPS website for the most up-to-date information.
- Hike or snowshoe, depending on the time of year, around Bear Lake. Located at the end of Bear Lake Road, the scenic lake offers a dirt trail around its perimeter that is just under one mile. It is an easy, beginner trail with outstanding views that is great for the entire family.
- Hike along the golden meadows of the expansive valley floor of Moraine Park to see stunning mountain views and herds of elk that frequent the area. Elk are the most active in the fall during their rut season but can be seen year-round throughout the park, with Moraine Park offering the best chances to spot them.

Day 2
Take the day to explore Estes Park’s charming downtown. The town’s center is filled with cozy coffee shops, art galleries, local restaurants, and plenty of specialty stores to shop till you drop. Enjoy the Estes Park Riverwalk, where visitors will find most of the area’s eateries, bars, and shops. Both the Big Thompson River and Fall River run through the heart of town, where they meet at the George Hix Riverside Plaza, the heart of the Riverwalk. Here you can enjoy artful statues, quaint bridges, and flowing fountains amongst the natural setting of the Rockies.
Start each day off right with breakfast from a local eatery in town. Enjoy there or take it to go with you on your adventures for the day.
Day 3
After your full days of adventures, take your last day to rest and relax in your cozy Estes Park cabin. Bring the beauty of Estes Park and the Rocky Mountains to your doorstep with a cabin or cottage rental at Brynwood on the River.
