There is no denying that Estes Park is a top travel destination. But don’t just take our word for it. Over the years, several publications, journalists, and editors have named Estes Park one of the best places to travel in the U.S. A recent recognition from Fodor’s Travel has named Estes Park as one of the ‘top places to go in the West in 2022.’ Discover why we think our little mountain town should still be on your travel list for 2025!
Rocky Mountain National Park
One of the biggest reasons Estes Park is a top travel destination is its proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park. As the base camp to one of the most visited National Parks in the U.S. (#4 in 2020 with 3.3 million visitors), Estes Park is the perfect jumping-off point to outdoor adventures in Colorado. From hiking to wildlife viewing, there are many ways to explore the park.
The park will continue with its free days in 2025, which is a great time to see the park for free, even if you have just one day. RMNP is still working on a reservation system, May 23 through October, so be sure to plan and make your reservations ahead of time online.
Estes Park Aerial Tramway
The Estes Park Aerial Tramway is one of the best activities in Estes Park and is back open for business! Ride to Prospect Mountain and take in the views of the Rocky Mountains and downtown Estes Park. Soar above treetops and mountaintops for a unique ride unlike any other. And the best part is you can safely ride alone with just your family and friends.
Downtown Estes Park
In addition to our outdoor activities, Estes Park also features a lively downtown. Filled with restaurants, local shops, art galleries, coffee shops, breweries, wineries, and more, there is plenty to keep you busy all day. Take a stroll on Elk Avenue or Moraine Avenue for shops and dining. Enjoy a scenic route along the Riverwalk or a picnic lunch at Bond Park.
Estes Park Events
Did you know Estes Park is home to more than 20 annual events, most of which occur outdoors? It’s what makes Estes Park a top travel destination, no matter the season. Our most popular event, Elk Fest, is held in the fall season (late September/early October) outside Bond Park. This is easily one of our favorite times of the year when the leaves change color, the elk are out and about, and the first signs of winter appear with snow-capped mountain peaks.
See The Elk
But perhaps, one of the biggest reasons Estes Park is a top travel destination is our abundance of elk that make an appearance every fall. During the elk rut (mating season), hundreds of elk descend upon Estes Park, making it impossible NOT to see one during your visit. The streets, parks, and golf courses are flooded with our antlered friends for a sight unlike any other.
Stay at Brynwood on the River
One of the best reasons Estes Park is a top travel destination is its abundance of scenic accommodations, such as Brynwood on the River. We offer cozy individual cabins on the river, motel rooms, and private mountain vacation homes to accommodate all types of travel.
