Estes Park Family-Friendly Activities

Estes Park Family Vacation Activities

Estes Park has been a favorite destination for traveling families for generations. There are plenty of activities suitable for children, as well as any member of your family. Below are some of our favorite family-friendly activities to try on your next Estes Park vacation.

Biking

Biking is a great way to get to know Estes Park and challenge yourself in the mountains. If the little ones aren’t ready for difficult trails, there are plenty of in-town trails and easy loops around the city. The Lake Estes Bike Path is a 3.75-mile loop that is popular with smaller bikers. You can get rentals, helmets, and all your bicycling equipment from Estes Park Mountain Shop.

Geocaching

Take part in a treasure hunt through Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, and Grand Lake when participating in the Across the Divide GeoTour. Get your geocache passport, the free app, and plan your Estes Park geocaching adventure. The geocache spots range from easy to hard in difficulty and have various terrain types.

Hiking

Rocky Mountain National Park has more than 300 miles of hiking trails and many of these are suitable for children and hikers looking for an easy or medium-difficulty trail. There are several lakes and falls loops that have little to no incline and several popular hiking trails that take you to great heights but at an easy pace.

Horseback Riding

Saddle up for some fun when taking a horseback riding tour of Estes Park! These tours accommodate riders of all ages and will match you up with the perfect horse for your skill and comfort level. There are many horseback riding companies to choose from.

Jeep Tours

Get on the road but let a professional guide take you around to the best sights in Estes Park by booking a Jeep tour. From the excitement of Wildside 4×4 Tours to a photography-focused safari from Green Jeep Tour, you’ll be delighted by the sights and thrills of the Rockies like never before.

Movie Theaters

Estes Park is home to two movie theaters and catching a movie is the perfect way to end a day full of adventure with your family. The Reel Mountain Theater is a family-owned and operated business that takes theater popcorn very seriously meaning it’s very delicious for you! For a cinematic adventure that takes you back in time, visit the Historic Park Theatre which began operating in 1913 and is the oldest-running movie theater in the United States. Not everything about the theatre is historic as they do show current films

Wildlife Watching

Want a free and fun activity for your young ones? Wildlife watching is the perfect activity for the kids and Estes Park’s wildlife includes elk, deer, bighorn sheep, coyote, marmot, and sometimes you’ll see black bears. While most of these animals tend to stick to their surroundings inside Rocky Mountain National Park, you’ll occasionally see them wander into town for a visit. It is a special experience to see these animals against the fall foliage!
